Skin Care for Every Complexion Type

Every woman craves for smooth, gorgeous and young looking skin no matter what her complexion is! Listed below are skin care recommendations for the five types of complexion:

Skin Care

Fair Complexion

  • Wash face with milk – Mix equal quantities of milk and water and use it as face wash. Lactic acid present in milk helps clear outer layer of skin to reveal lighter colored skin beneath.

  • Use natural face mask – Mix lemon juice, almond oil, cream and honey into a thick paste. Apply on the face and keep for an hour before washing off. This acts as a skin moisturizer and lightener.

  • Use natural scrub – Mix a small quantity of olive oil in sugar and massage on the face allowing the sugar granules to spread all over the face. The sugar scrub is very effective in removing dead skin cells to reveal fairer skin.

  • When acid is good – Alpha hydroxyl acids, available in drug stores should be applied byfair complexioned peopleso that they look more glowing and healthy.

Dark Complexion

  • Cleaning milk is a must – Wash away dirt and sweat on dark skin using a cleanser as opposed to a face wash or soap.

  • Say no to aerated drinks – Drink water and avoid aerated drinks. Take a laxative along with water to flush out toxins that lead to further darkening of skin.

  • The right face pack – Mix ground gram, turmeric powder and olive oil in cold milk and apply on the face. If you have distinctly dark patches, this pack is very effective in removing them permanently.

Normal Complexion

  • Use rose water or astringent tonics that are alcohol free to wash face in the morning.

  • Do not use petroleum by-products as moisturizers. Pay special attention to moisturize the area around the eyes.

  • You can use oil based creams at night, but always make sure to pat the skin with a tissue paper after use of this cream.

  • Use a face mask of egg yolk at least once every week. This replenishes necessary moisture and keeps the complexion glowing.

Skin Care for Every Season

Summer Season

  • Drink plenty of liquids – Water is the best way to keep your facial skin healthy and hydrated. Besides water, you should consume fresh fruit juices like watermelon juice, lemon juice and coconut water at regular intervals throughout the day.

  • Have colored fruits – Colored fruits have antioxidants and vitamin C. While antioxidants fight the free radicals in the skin, vitamin C prevents pigmentation.

  • Use sunscreen – Sunscreens of more than SPF 30 must be applied every three hours during summers.

  • Use anti fungal powder – Bacteria is born and grows in sweat. To prevent infection from bacteria, dust the face with anti fungal powder which has absorbent properties.

Winter Season

  • Go for facials – Visit the parlor at least once a month during the winters to get a facial. This prevents the accumulation of white flakes of skin which are seen on the surface due to harsh weather conditions.

  • Winter moisturizing – Winter calls for the use of heavy creams and light moisturizers. Do not forget to apply a cream everyday before going to bed. The day cream must have SPF of at least 15. Follow up with application of moisturizers every few hours, especially when you wash the face, even with plain water.

  • Don’t use petroleum – Unlike the popular notion that petroleum jellies prevent drying of skin, they lead to blocking of the pores on the skin surface. Once the skin is congested, moisture cannot seep into the inner layers and hence dries up faster.

  • Use a hydrating serum – This is especially applicable for people who have very dry skin. Mix hydrating serum with your regular moisturizer and see your skin glow in spite of frigid temperatures and dry winter air.

  • Use cream cleansers – Avoid gel based products which have astringents that further dry the skin. Cream cleansers not only wash away germs, they also hydrate the skin.

Monsoon Season

  • Increase exfoliation – Monsoon is the time of fungus growth on the skin. If you want to prevent fungal infection, it is advisable to exfoliate at least twice every week, using facial scrubs available in general stores.

  • Toner is a must – For every time you wash the face, follow up with application of a toner. It helps to restore the pH balance of the skin by closing pores.

  • Use a calamine lotion – In monsoons, you can drop your regular foundation and replace it with a calamine lotion as makeup base. Cream based oily foundations are harmful for the skin during the rains.

  • Alpha hydroxyl acid – Your face wash must contain this acid. Use only once a day and your skin will look noticeably fresh.
