Bikram Yoga




Bikram Yoga, also known as hot yoga or 'fire yoga', finds significance in its practice within a heated room, precisely at 105° Fahrenheit (40.8° Celsius).

It consists of 26 postures and is practiced in a session of 90 minutes at a stretch.


About Bikram Yoga


The form of yoga is named after its founder Bikram Choudhury. All the poses are performed twice with a certain amount of time devoted to each pose. The various poses range from standing postures, backward stretches, front bends and twists.

These are followed by 'kapalbhati' or the 'blowing in firm' breath.

The poses of Bikram Yoga

The following are the 26 poses of this form of yoga:

1) Pranayam or sanding deep breathing session
2) Ardhachandrasana along with pada-hastasana which means a half moon pose
3) Utkatasana
4) Garudasana or an eagle
5) Dandayamana- Janushirasana or standing head to knee
6) Dandayamana- dhanurasana or standing bow pulling nose
7) Tuladandasana
8) Dandayamana – Bibhaktapada - Paschimottanasana
9) Trikonasana is the pose of a balance
10) Dandayamana - Bibhaktapada - Janushirasana which is standing with legs apart and head towards knee
11) Tadasana or the pose of a tree
12) Padangustasana or standing on your toes
13) Savasana is a dead body
14) Pavanamuktasana a wind releasing posture
15) Sit up
16) Bhujangasana is the pose of a snake (cobra)
17) Salabhasana is a locust pose
18) Poorna-salabhasana
19) Dhanurasana is he posture of a bow
20) Supta-Vajrasana
21) Ardha-kurmasana is a turtle pose
22) Ustrasana resembles a camel
23) Sasangasana is a rabbit
24) Janushirasana along with Paschimottanasana is a head up to the knee pose
25) Ardha – Matsyendrasana- a twist in your spine
26) Kapalbhati
