Chinese tattoos are well known for their use of symbols and complex characters. More than beautifying or drawing attention to a body part, Chinese tattoos are designed to express one's inner feelings about life. A good number of celebrities have popularized Chinese tattoos. In Chinese language, the word 'tattoo' is referred to as "Wen Shen" or "Ci Shen". The term means to "puncture the body". The Chinese art of tattooing has been in practice for many years. There is a story behind this. According to a Chinese legend, a Chinese general Yueh Fei served the South Song Dynasty. Once, during the battle with northern enemies the Field Marshall under whom Yueh Fei served ,betrayed the South Song and supported the enemy camp. Frustrated and angry, Yueh Fei resigned from his job and returned home.
