Biker tattoos

If you don’t sport a tattoo yourself or are unknown with the art, biker tattoos may spring foremost to your mind when you think of tattooing. These bold, striking, rebellious designs are a symbol of the open road and of the segment of society that enjoys it the most.

Biker tattoos are at times connected with underworld or prison tattooing – rigorously against the rules and done with handmade equipment and improvised inks. 'Motorcycle gangs' and the prison population do intersect, of course, but to a lesser degree than you might imagine of.

Many weekend bikers hold down conventional, even straight-laced jobs and get their tattoos done from a legitimate tattoo parlor or shop. The striking designs associated with biker tattoos are what they all share in common.

Harley Davidson Tattoo

one looks at loyalty when riding a Harley Davidson. Many biker tattoos feature the Harley Davidson name or logo, sometimes on its own, and sometimes as part of an intrigue design. Picture an eagle perched on top of a 'Harley Davidson' banner or name inscribed like 'Ride Free'.

Biker tattoos differ greatly with regard to how much skin they cover up, but generally they dont appear small at all. A biker tattoo might be at the center on a bicep or forearm or the whole arm might be covered with a 'sleeve' of interlaced tattoo designs. Most biker tattoos appear on the arm (motorcycle gear usually covers everything else) but that doesn’t mean they are limited to the arm – it’s not uncommon to see a biker sporting a 'body shirt' or sleeve that covers a large portion of his – or her – torso. What you probably won’t come across are separate tattoos on the shoulder or ankle.

In other words, it depicts the commitment in the lifestyle of a person by counting the number of tattoos that he/she has. Weekend bikers might have just one or two, but a sleeve or body shirt of biker tattoos reveals extreme commitment.

Getting a Biker Tattoo

Biker tattoos are meant for bikers. Generally speaking, if you’re not part of that particular culture, you shouldn’t get yourself a biker tattoo. There exists a certain amount of respect for the originality of the biker lifestyle. An exception might be if you have a close personal relationship or affiliation with someone who is part of the lifestyle – if it’s meaningful to you on a personal level. In short, biker tattoos are not just any tattoo design – they have a strong and particular significance and association with a still vital lifestyle.

When most people think of bikers, they assume the menacing biker gangs. There is no doubt that over the years, there has spudded a rather romantic image of what a biker is, but the truth is, these outlaws only make up about 1% of bikers, while the rest are simply fanciers. But from the overblown rumors of biker gangs, it is understandable why a lot of people are a bit suspicious when it comes to biker tattoos. But to the abundance of enthusiasts, biker tattoos are just an expression of the excitement and freedom they feel from the open road.
