A sensitive skin falls under a particular category of skin, which has tendency to have adverse effect by means of exposure to different external elements. There are innumerable factors, to which this skin type is susceptible. It can be the air, the growing pollution, the dust, the heat, water, direct sun rays and many more. A skin can be sensitive irrespective of its classifications, it can very well belong to dry, normal and oily skin but if it is anyway inclined to allergic reactions then, it is called a sensitive skin.

The general characteristics of a sensitive skin are that, it happens to be a thin skin type with a fine texture. In general, the sensitive skin is dry and usually very frail, in most cases; the skin has the veins visible from outside.

The sensitive skin requires special care. Otherwise it can lead to unwanted consequences. The sensitive repels to a great extent due to variation in temperature. It can also have adverse effects by use of certain soaps, detergent, cosmetics and other skin products.

  • The products, such as, the various skin crème, lotions and other cosmetics shouldn’t comprise hypo allergens or high fragrances. Although, a sun screen is a necessity to all the skin types but great care should be put in choosing the appropriate one. It should not be a PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid) sunscreen, as it can cause harm to the skin to a great extent.

  • The cleanser, toners, soaps for sensitive skin should also be selected wisely. It is best to use products which are rich in essential oils, such as, Chamomile, Lavender, Neroli, Rose and Sandalwood. It is better to resort to herbal or natural products because they don’t consist of much chemical elements.

  • It is good to wash the skin frequently and dab with a soft towel. One should never rub a sensitive skin, harshly with a rough towel.

  • Whenever a new range of skin product is been purchased , it should be tasted on the skin of a particular body part, like on the hand or so and if it will render positive result, then should be applied on the face and other important parts.

  • A healthy diet is also a must to retain a healthy skin and create resistance in it. One must at least drink eight glasses of water everyday, as water helps the skin breath out fresh by giving away the excess toxins of the body. It will be great to add up fresh fruits and green vegetables in the diet as they will not only protect the skin from unnecessary hazards but also attribute to the beauty of an individual

  • Lastly, it is an important thing to visit a dermatologist as they are the specialists to ensure one about the particular skin type and ascertain the measures to be undertaken by the person.
