Comedo
Comedo is a skin condition which is considered to be the primary indication of acne. Usually filled with bacteria and sebum, a comedo may be closed or open. The closed variant is termed as a whitehead, while the open variety is blackhead.
Types of comedo
Comedo is classified as:
- Chloracne: A cluster of comedones that develops into a rash. This is usually caused on exposure to chlorinated chemicals.
- Whitehead: This is a non inflammatory type of comedo with a white center.
- Blackhead: Often referred to as an “open comedo,” this is filled with dead skin cells and sebum.
Treatment for comedo
Comedones are best treated at home with grandma's recipe as your guide. Some of the home remedies are listed below:
- Add two teaspoon of dry rosemary to a pan of boiling water. Cover with a towel and take in the steam. This remedy is very beneficial for oily skin type.
- Rub the affected areas gently with salt and lemon (optional). This should be followed by steam therapy or a warm shower. Squeeze out the pus and apply lotion.
- Apply a mixture of dead sea salt and olive oil (kept in a jar for at least 24 hours), onto the affected areas very gently.
- Add chamomile flowers in a pan of boiling water. Now take in the steam by bending over, after covering your head with a towel for best results.
