Athlete's Foot
Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection which usually occurs between the toes. It is also known as Tinea Pedis and is known to be the second most common skin ailment in the US after acne.
This is a communicable disease that is transmitted through improper hygiene practiced in moist environments like showers, common baths, swimming pools and locker rooms.
Athlete’s foot is caused by several types of fungi that are called dermatophytes. The typical symptoms of Athlete’s foot are scaling and cracking of the skin associated by itching of varying intensity. Blisters might also occur at times, causing some degree of pain around the affected area.
The infection can sometimes spread to other parts of the body. Sides of the feet, soles, toenails, groin and limbs have been known to be affected too. However, the most commonly affected area is the webbing between the toes.
