Organic Cosmetic Manufacture

Recently the trend of organic cosmetic manufacture is catching up .This type of cosmetic manufacturing is the latest fad; as preserving the nature has increasingly taken a front seat. The demand for organic cosmetics has finally hit the super expressway and is ready for the ultimate transition from chemical cosmetics to organic ones.

According to teenage mythology, nail polish is sold in small bottles because the paint is so toxic, that it wouldn’t be legal in a bigger one, and not because nails are small. The folklore is right. The composition of many personal care products includes toxic, carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting materials.

The research led to a huge hue and cry in the consumer market and it finally gave way to the synthesis of so called organic cosmetic manufacturing.Flashy labels and models with loud make up soon gave way to more soothing advertisements. And the world changed over from a chemical makeup to an organic one.

What does Organic Mean?

Organic means, anything relating to, yielding or involving the use of food/substances produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without the employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides.

Environmental Impact
Several surveys and studies have attempted to examine and compare conventional and organic systems of farming. The general consensus across these surveys is that organic farming is less damaging for the following reasons:

  • Organic farms are better as they do not consume or release pesticides into the environment.
  • These farms have an edge over conventional farms at sustaining diverse ecosystems, i.e., populations of plants and insects, as well as animals. However when calculated either per unit area or per unit of yield, organic farms use less energy and produce less waste, e.g., waste such as packaging materials for chemicals.
Organic Vs Chemical
Your skin absorbs everything, so whatever you apply, stays there and adds to the toxicity. So every time you dress for that party with your favorite lip wear on, beware, as you might be inflicting yourself with that dangerous dose of carcinogenic substance.

Specific Guidelines
If Organic Cosmetic Manufacturers follow these steps, rest assured that you are buying a product that well deserves to be called Organic.
  • Only plant and mineral ingredients must be used whenever possible. No endangered species should be put at risk. Irradiation of plants is prohibited and synthetic coloring agents or fragrances, or paraffin and other petroleum products are strictly prohibited.
  • Only certified organic plant ingredients or certified biodynamic ingredients shall be used wherever possible. In case these ain't available, ingredients should be sourced in the following order of priority: organically grown, wild-crafted, and lastly conventionally grown plant ingredients and they should not contain any genetically engineered ingredients.
  • No ingredients derived from animals may be used except beeswax, bee pollen, propolis, honey, royal jelly, milk, and lanolin, which are considered acceptable as they do not harm the animal.
  • Manufacturers should use recyclable and environmentally friendly packaging wherever possible
So what are you waiting for, make sure that the next time you go shopping for that glossy lip wear or the sun tan, you are not adding to the concerns of the already at-risk environment or not endangering any one of those to be extinct species.
