Structural Muscular Balancing
Structural Muscular Balancing is an extremely effective mode of massage treatment that relieves the body from muscular rigidity, chronic pain and stress. It is applied with equal effectiveness among young athletes who face muscular and structural imbalance due to faulty training as well as seniors who have developed structural imbalance over years of postural malpractice.
Goals of Muscular Balancing Works
It takes a trained professional to properly apply Structural Muscular Balancing or SMB. SMB, it must be remembered, is not a singular massage system. It is rather a combination of several bodywork systems. It has its root in the Positional Release system, which is adapted to suit the specific psychophysical conditions of the patient. The goals of Structural Muscular Balancing are:
- Improving Neuromuscular Communication
- Rebalancing the energy flow in the muscles
- Moving the body away from pain and towards more comfort
- Releasing tension which limits body range of motion
Techniques applied in Structural Muscular Balancing
A number of techniques are applied in SMB to bring about the desired result. Some of the bodywork techniques employed are:
- Passive Positioning
- Directional Massage
- Deep Pressure
- Muscle Testing
