Scalp Massage
Scalp massage enhances the health of your scalp, strengthens hair roots and brings about an overall improvement in the health of your hair. It is also effective in preventing premature hair loss. A properly done scalp massage can also be a great stress reliever.
A scalp massage is completed in two steps. The first is the application of oil on your hair, followed the actual massage.
Oil Application before Scalp Massage
For the best results, it is advisable that you apply oil that suits your hair type before you massage your scalp. First choose an essential oil that suits you, like tea tree or lavender oil for anti-dandruff treatment, peppermint or rosemary oil for hair loss, and rose or charmomile oil for dry hair. Mix two drops of essential oil for every tablespoon of olive or almond oil that you use as a base. Put the entire mixture on a plate and place the plate on a bowl of hot water.
The next step is the application of the oil on your scalp. Take oil on the tips of your fingers. Gently part the hair at various points and apply the oil on your scalp. Repeat the process till the whole mixture is applied. Now your hair is ready for massage.
Steps of Scalp Massage
Start massaging your hair from your temples, just around the hairline. Work your way towards the back of the skull. The pressure of your fingers should be medium, and the movement should be short and circular. Once you have reached the base of your skull, work up towards the hairline in similar short circular movements, and then move sideways till you stop close to the top of your ears. Repeat the process, but increase the pressure and the speed of the movement. This will allow more blood circulation in your scalp, which will make the follicles healthy.
After the massage is complete, leave the oil on your hair for about half an hour, more if possible. If you have exceptionally dry hair, leave the oil overnight. Shampoo your hair once the entire process is over. Pour cold water on your hair after all the oil has been rinsed out. Massage your scalp once every week, and you will soon notice the difference.
