Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique. The term ‘reiki’ comprises two words ‘rei’ meaning a greater form of intelligence and ‘ki’ meaning life force. The basis of Reiki is the belief that thoughts posses the power as far as directing energy is concerned.
Mikao Usui is known to be the founder of Reiki. It is said that he discovered Reiki after spending 21 days in recluse. His fasting, meditation and prayer led to this discovery. According to Usui, it was with the help of mystical revelation that he acquired spiritual power as well as knowledge as far as application of Reiki is concerned. He set up the Usui Reiking Healing Society in the year 1922.
Mikao Usui summed up the literary works of the 122nd Emperor of Japan, Meji Emperor, which at a much later period came to be known as the Principles of Reiki. The five principles of Reiki are, ‘do not be angry’, ‘do not worry’, ‘be grateful’, ‘work with integrity’ and ‘be kind to others’.
