Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy technique is based on the study of the musculoskeletal system or Osteopathics. The principle behind this suggests that every joint of the body must be utilized to its full range of motion and movement or else it risks itself from various injuries and strains. Muscle Energy Therapy utilizes the patient's muscular energy (the force) and the therapist's presentation of a stationary surface (anti-force). In this way, muscles and joints are stretched to its limit to aid circulation and flexibility. Muscle Energy Therapy explains that when indirect pressure is applied to a part of the body, the other side of the joint will relax according to the principle of reciprocal inhibition.
Benefits of Muscle Energy Technique:
- Improve muscle and ligament strength
- Improve mobility of the joints
- Provide relaxation to the body
- Significant de-stressing of the body and mind
- Aiding the body to release harmful toxins
- Chronic muscle pain
- Headaches and migraine
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Injury or stiffness
- Scoliosis ( curvature of the spine)
- Sciatica
- Asymmetrical arms, hips or legs.
Procedure of Muscle Energy Technique:
The therapist applies anti-force on the patient after asking him to contract a muscle for about 5 seconds. The procedure is repeated about 2-3 times to facilitate further stretching of the muscle every time it is repeated.
