A Grapefruit-diet is a twelve day diet program which includes mainly low calorie foods. Grapefruit has lots of health beneficial components. It contains fiber, vitamin c and simple carbohydrate. Thus it is thought that the fruit helps reduce weight. A person suffering from an obesity problem can go for this diet program.

Origin of the Grapefruit-diet theory - The theory came into being in the year 1930. It is also known as Hollywood diet. Though started in 30s it gained popularity in 70s. At that time it was named as mayo clinic. However, why the clinic’ name became associated with this diet was unknown. Later in the year 2004 Dr. Fujioka analyzed this diet theory. Let’s peep into the theory.

Grapefruit-diet ingredients

Grapefruit is the main ingredient in this dietary system. You can take some other vegetables and fruits along with this fruit. A dieter must drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day when on diet. The vegetables which are not allowed in this diet are as follows:

  • Potato
  • White Onion
  • Celery

The diet includes the following vegetables -

  • Green and red onion
  • Cucumber
  • Radish
  • Spinach
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Peas

Grapefruit diet breakfast

A dieter must start his day with a glass of grapefruit juice. He must take half of a large grapefruit. The breakfast dish also includes two poach or boiled eggs and some boiled bacon pieces.

Grapefruit diet lunch

The lunch should start with a glass of Grapefruit juice. Some other items including steamed chicken or mutton pieces are also should be there. A delicious salad made with various green vegetables will make the meal tastier.

Grapefruit diet dinner

Dinner dish should be complete with some steamed meat or fish pieces, a glass of grapefruit juice and some boiled vegetables. Cabbages, broccolis, and spinaches can be taken boiled. A healthy salad of leafy vegetables can also be there. Before going to bed one can have a glass of toned milk or tomato juice.

Rules of Grapefruit Diet

  • You should drink eight glasses of water daily.
  • You should eat until you feel stuffed without leaving anything.
  • You should not alter the quantity of grapefruit or its juice mentioned in the sample or example diet plan. This amount of juice or fruit triggers the burning of fat.
  • You should entirely cut down on coffee, white vegetables, desserts and potatoes. However, you can eat small quantities of food fried in butter. Even little meat is allowed in the Grapefruit Diet plan.
  • After on a diet for 12 days, you must break the fast for 2 days and resume again.
  • You must shun smoking.
  • Don’t eat any time of dessert or sweet fruit.

Grapefruit Diet Tips

  • While on a Grapefruit Diet plan, you can eat bell pepper, red onion, radish, cereal, broccoli, fat free or low-fat diet salad dressings.
  • You should entirely avoid chilly, mayonnaise, white onions, potato chips, cucumbers, hot dogs, cheese, bread and pickles.
