Detox or detoxification refers to the flushing out of toxins and harmful substances from the body. Primarily, it was thought that detoxification is necessary for those who consume drugs and alcohol. However, at present the term detox is also used with different herbs, diet plans and processes wherein dietary and environmental toxins are removed from the body.

Benefits of Detox Diet


Detox can be referred to as cleaning the systems of the body. In order to clean the system, you would have to strictly follow a special detox diet that slowly removes congestion from the body and also revitalizes it. Some of the advantages of detox diet include:
  • It purifies the blood and hence, you would find a clearer skin.
  • It nourishes the body with nutrients.
  • It helps in the better synchronization of the different body systems.
  • It energizes physiological health.
  • It also improves the emotional and psychological health of a person.
  • Bowel movements are regularized.
  • It enhances the power to concentrate.
  • Digestion is improved
  • It makes a person healthy and rejuvenated.

Rules of Detox Diet

  • While on detoxification, you should consume food that provides nutrients, vitamins and minerals to your body.
  • Besides, food with anti-oxidant properties should be consumed as well.
  • You should minimize intake of chemicals, fried food and colas. Fiber rich food is also beneficial during detox dieting.
  • You should also consume lots of water, which helps to flush out toxins from the body.
Note: Before beginning a detox diet, you must consult a doctor. But pregnant and nursing women as well as children should not go on a detox diet. Also, people who are suffering from terminal illness, eating disorder, anemia, diabetes, thyroid, kidney problems, autoimmune disease, genetic diseases, cancer and other chronic conditions should always consult a physician before considering a detox diet.
