The bob hair style constitutes a particular pattern of hair cut meant for the women folk. It is a short hair style which accentuates well to a youthful look. In bob hair cut the weight of the hair is left falling between the chin and the ears. The bob hair style was first devised by Antoine, a hairdresser from Paris in the year 1865.

The bob style became immensely famous as it was adapted by the women belonging to the high society circle. It was the “Bloomsbury” circle in Britain which is mainly responsible for bob hair style gaining importance.

Apart from that, there had been many film stars, who made this hair style popular among public.

The bob hair style continued to thrive through decades gaining momentum during the 20s. The following decades also had notable significance in the change of forms of the hairstyle. The haircut can very well be called a celebrity hair style as at different times, different celebrities have used it and induced it to go through various modifications.

There have been several film stars and other celebrated personalities, who has used the bob hair style and implemented different newer styles in it. During post World War I, it was the flappers or the new age style icons, which made bob, cut very popular and after that the Hollywood actresses, Louise Brooks and Colleen Moore spread this style to a great extent. At one time, bob style used to be referred as the sign of a feminist. The razor cut and the shingle bob cut, which were different form of bob itself were introduced during the 1920s.

During the 60s, the hair cut again gained popularity by celebrities. The well known coiffeur Vidal Sassoon remodeled it and people like Mary Quant, Jean Muir, Carolyn Jones,Amanda Barrie, Keely Smith, Cilla Black, Billie Davis, Juliette Greco, Mireille Mathieu and Beverly Bivens, Siouxsie Sioux, Corinne Drewery, Anna Wintour, Cyndi Lauper showcased it. They were all eminent personalities belonging to the time line from 60 s and90s. The bob cut became popular as a man’s cut during the 70s and was mostly known as Beatle cut as it was adapted by the famous musical group “Beatles”. During 2000, the style of bob cut was revived as the famous singer Madonna adapted it.

Basically the bob cut is same as the blunt cut of the olden times but the wedge cut and the razor cut are its contemporary forms. The retro bob look can be emphasized upon by having undercut hair layer hugging the head. It can be done by cutting the hair lying underneath shorter than the hair which lies near the crown.

The bob cut matches perfectly with teenager girls. There are both the choice of short cut and long cut bob. If a girl really wants to highlight her innocent looks with a touch of modernity then she can go for a cut keeping the hair in front longer till chin length and the hair at the back of the neck shorter. This is called the A-line bob, which can be well attributed with some fringes to give the face an attractive look.
