If you are an enthusiastic follower of the beauty trends you may already know how important hairstyling is to complete your look. On the red carpet we often see the celebrity styles are either being praised or criticized for that matter based on the dresses and of course for their hairstyles.

Hairstyles complement your looks and hence you can’t overlook the need to adjust your hairstyle with your changing styling statements. Also, hairstyling can help with makeovers. Hairstyle can even make you look younger. Hairstyling is therefore a booming industry and hairstylists are in constant process to discover and develop new hair styles which will set the new trend.

Hairstyling however isn’t only about following the latest trends; rather, you have to be careful about choosing the right style which will complement your face and personality. The proper hairstyle would help in accentuating your features and attract attention to the best parts of your face. So, how would go about choosing the right haircut?

How to choose the right haircut

When you walk into a parlor the hairstylist would ask you what style you want and at that moment we are struck with the ordeal of choosing the right hairstyle. You can simply ask the stylist to give your hair the latest popular haircut (just like the Justin Bieber style, which is currently very popular with the young men and teens), or, you can take a more serious approach to it by deciding the haircut appropriate for the shape of your face and figure. Following are some of the factors that can influence your decision regarding right haircut.

  • Shape of your face i.e. round, oval, oblong, square or heart shaped
  • Complexion- fair, warm, tanned, dark etc.
  • Thickness of your hair- thick, medium or thin
  • Length- short, medium, long
  • Texture of your hair- fine, coarse, curly or straight
  • Color of your hair- dark, brown, blonde, red, fair hair and so on and so forth.

Your hair style would also depend upon your age, desired style, desired length, desired colors and similar other factors.

The shape of your face is an important deciding factor about choosing the right hairstyle. Wrong hairstyle can create a wrong impression about the shape of your face.

Oval faces are said to be the ideal shape of face. It can pull off any hairstyle. But if you are not lucky enough to have an oval shaped faced, fear not. There are hairstyles that can help you get the right face shape. If you have a round shape face, you can actually cut your hair in a way that your face would look oval. A good hairstylist would know instinctively the right hairstyle for your face.

There is now technology available where you can feed your picture in the computer and try out at different hairstyles before choosing the best one.

How to decide your face shape

There are more than one ways to determine the shape of your face. To determine the shape of your face-

  • Tie your hair with a hair band or Alice band so that no hair falls on your face.
  • Take a lipstick and stand before a mirror.
  • Draw the shape of your face on the mirror.
  • Step back and check the shape.

Decide about the shape of your face consulting the following table.

  • Oval face- the length of the face is one and half inch more than the width. Forehead and jaw are of same width approx.
  • Round face: the length is equal to the breadth. Circular chin
  • Square face: Broad face with strong jawline
  • Heart shape face: Wide forehead with narrow jaw.
  • Oblong face: The length is almost twice the breadth.

So, now that you know your face shape you can choose the right hairstyle accordingly.
