These homemade hair styling recipes are very easy to prepare and will save you a trip to the hair stylist. They are better than hair lacquers or the artificial hair sprays that can be bought from the stores. Homemade hair sprays are made from natural productsproducts that you would find in your kitchen.

However, it needs to be mentioned that you will need a hair styling kit. Hair sprays help you style your hair but you will need hair styling equipments like hair curlers and hair straighteners, too.

You will need a pump spray bottle to apply the homemade natural hair sprays. Unlike artificial hair sprays these do not come in easy-to-use aerosol containers. Hair sprays help to keep your hair in place. You can use these hair sprays when you style your hair or immediately after you style your hair.

Homemade Recipes for Natural Hair Sprays:

Lemon or Orange Hair Spray

What You Need:

  • 1- Lemon or Orange
  • 2 cups- Water
  • 1 mug- Alcohol

How to Prepare:

  • Slice the lemon into small pieces, remove the seeds. You can also try out an orange if you have dry hair.
  • Take 2 cups of water in a container and add the sliced lemon or orange. Cover the container with a lid.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for one hour.
  • As the mixture boils, keep on adding water to maintain the level of the liquid in the container.
  • After one hour remove the container from the flame and allow it to cool.
  • Strain the mixture to remove any solid particles (lemon slices).
  • If you find the solution a bit sticky or too thick, then you can add some more water.
  • Add 1 mug of alcohol to the mixture. This will act as a preservative.
  • Pour the cooled mixture into a spray bottle. Refrigerate the mixture.
  • You can store the spray in the refrigerator for a maximum period of 2 weeks. Refrigeration is must as the spray does not contain any artificial preservative.

Oil and Sugar Hair Spray

What You Need:

  • 2 tsp-Sugar
  • 2 tsp-Vodka
  • ½ cup-Water
  • 4 -5 drops-Olive Oil

How to Prepare:

  • Mix sugar and water in a pan and then boil the water till the sugar is completely dissolved in the water. Add vodka and oil at the end. Mix well.
  • Cool the mixture.
  • Store the solution in a cool, dry place.
  • Use this natural hair spray within 5 days’ of preparation. This spray does not contain artificial preservatives and so it should not be kept for a long time.

Tips on How to Apply Natural Hair Sprays

  • Ideally, your hair should be tangle-free and dirt-free when you style it.
  • Always use a pump spray bottle to apply these homemade natural hair sprays to your hair. Keep the spray nozzle at a distance of 1 inch from your hair.
  • Remember to style your hair when the hair spray is fresh and wet.
  • If you comb your hair after applying the spray, use a wide-toothed comb. Comb gently and slowly and do this immediately after applying the hair spray. Make sure that the ends of your hair are not tangled.

Caution: If you are allergic to any one of the ingredients used in these hair spray recipes, then do not use them.
