Often you will find hair getting drier post a colouring job – whether it’s done at home or professionally – since the pigment particles open up the cuticles to settle on the shaft. So post a colour job you need to put in some extra tress care.
Tips for Colored Hair
The right wash: Choose a shampoo meant for colour treated hair, as they are more hydrating and gentler for the strands; and nourish the scalp to strengthen the roots. They contain special polymers to help smooth down the cuticles to keep colour in and make your hair shine. Concentrate on washing your scalp to remove excess grease without ruffling up your hair. Let the shampoo work its way down to the ends with a final rinse of cool water. Condition well: Since colouring process can weaken the strands, so you need to fortify them with a good conditioner. Use one that is meant for colour treated hair. Most have silicon compounds that add a lightweight, nourishing film to protect from environmental damage. You can also use a serum at the tips to protect them from splitting.
Mask it well: Once a week go for a deep conditioning treatment with a hair mask that is fortified with pro-vitamin B5 to improve the protein structure of your strands. Oil is good: You can also go for oil massage treatment twice a week to improve blood circulation at the scalp that further improves hair quality. The oil also protects the strands from the drying detergent in the shampoos. Try olive or almond oil, as they are light and have vitamin E. Stop tugging: Since coloured hair is weaker than virgin hair, so combing them when wet is a strict no-no. It also leads to frizziness. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle once your hair is dry or at least partially dry. Avoid blow drying too much. Use sunscreen: Like you protect your skin from the sun, so you should your hair, especially in summers. Sun can fade your colour sooner than you might like, making it look brassy. So use a serum or a leave-in conditioner with UV filters whenever you go out. Better still cover your head with a scarf or an umbrella.
