Hair Fall Due to Illness




Hair fall is probably one of the common problems that most of the people suffer from. Hair fall due to illness can turn you completely bald if you fail to take necessary steps on time. Thus, there are different types of hair fall solutions available in market in different form like cream, lotions, oil etc. But before applying these solutions it is extremely important to know the reasons behind hair fall or hair loss. Some of the common causes of hair fall are due to improper diet, exposure to harmful sun rays, dirt, dust and pollution and severe illness.

Hair loss becomes a temporary problem and after certain time period say one two months your hair grows back. High fever and severe types of infection lead to damage in hair follicle. How illness causes hair fall?


Depending on the resistance power of body hair loss occurs within a time period of 4 to 12 weeks. When the body is weak with illness, hair tends to enter in its resting phase. Roughly 35% to 40% hair on your scalp hair slips into its resting phase. But in case of healthy person only 10% hair remains in resting positing compared to a patient. Thus, the person suffering from illness experience severe hair falls. Infection, flu and high fever are some of the illness that causes massive hair fall. But the phase is temporary and after the body recovers hair loss stops. Malaria and typhoid are the best examples that fall under this category. Sometimes fungal infection all over the scalp causes hair loss. But with the use of antifungal treatments the scalp returns to its previous healthy state.

Types of illness causing hair fall


  • Thyroid disorders: If you are suffering from thyroid disorders then there are chances that you will suffer from hair fall. Some of the thyroid disorders that doctors have identified causing hair fall are hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. But the positive part is with proper treatment this kind of disorders can be rectified.

  • Undergoing stress: Today, stress contributes many kinds of diseases and if you are undergoing severe stress there are high chances that you will be suffering from hair fall. Stress affected hair loss can be divided into two types. In first type telogen effluvium, scalp hair tends to enter into resting phase from growing phase. In second type if you are suffering from severe stress, hair fall occurs on patches when blood cells attacks hair follicles to disrupt the growth of hair.

  • Cancer: Cancer is the worst kind of disease that a person can suffer from. There are different types of cancer occurring from different reasons. But hair loss occurs in almost every type cancer as the patient undergoes chemotherapy. In this type of treatment the patient is exposed to powerful radiation to kill the cancer cells. As a side effect of this treatment hair loss occurs and patient gradually turns bald.
