After a challenging and strenuous working life, the seniors look to explore areas that they had not been interested in before. Even if they were, they did not manage to devote adequate time towards them. One such area is fashion. Retirees, especially senior women are the ones who are more interested in fashion tips. They are not usually too fascinated with the latest trends ruling the world of fashion. Instead, they prefer maintaining their own style statements. The baby boomers still prefer comfortable dresses to fashionable outfits.

According to fashion experts, the baby boomers should focus on building a basic wardrobe that speaks of their tastes and preferences. The wardrobe should contain outfits for every occasion along with a set of accessories or jewelry that are informal and unstructured. In addition to this, the seniors should also be confident of the clothes that he/she is wearing for a particular occasion.

Making a unique style statement can also reflect one’s strong personality, if only it finds acceptance among others. It can consist of a suit or a jacket for a man and slacks with classic lines for a woman. Those who want to try a less conservative look can go for a white shirt or a soft/nubby sweater for men and brightly colored or black and white printed blouse, with jeans or cuffed pants. Ideally, seniors can go for traditional outfits, which are designed in lighter fabrics with milder shades.

In trying out something new, one has to see to it that the clothes do not seem misfits at their age. Some of the other wearables for seniors would be subtle fringe, denim or peasant skirts, frayed cuffs and skirt hems, and tooled leather. Besides, women of today have far greater options (both western and eastern outfits) to choose from. She does not have to stick to the age old flower-sprigged shirtwaist dresses or sarees. Rather, she can be far more fashionable in heels and a hat or salwaar kameez, or simply a pair of jeans and a top. The same thing applies to men as they do not have to stick to conventional suits and jackets but can actually go for blazers and other woolens.
