Fashion has been synonymous with contemporary style and trends. Fashion is that term which you can correlate with wearing something comfortable. There are various fashion terms which are used oft and on in the fashion fraternity to elaborate on the fashion topics.

List of the terms used for Fashion –
  • Fashion Designer – A fashion designer combines the different elements of a garment – line, proportion, color and texture. It is not necessary for a fashion designer to be adept with sewing and pattern-making, but they are always admired. But only these two qualities do not make you a successful fashion designer. Mostly all fashion designers are officially trained.

  • Pattern maker – A pattern maker puts the garment in proper shape and size. It can either be done manually or one can also use the AutoCAD computer software program. The other way of doing it is to drape the fabric directly on the dress format.


Categories

  • Tailor – A tailor makes custom designed garments made to the client's measure; especially suits (coat and trousers, jacket and skirt, et cetera). Tailors usually undergo an apprenticeship or other formal training.

  • Textile designer – A textile designer designs fabric weaves and prints for clothes and furnishings. Most textile designers are formally trained as apprentices and in school.

  • Fashion buyers – A buyer selects and buys the mix of clothing available in retail shops, department stores and chain stores. Most fashion buyers are trained in business and/or fashion studies.

  • Teacher of fashion design – A teacher of fashion design teaches the art and craft of fashion design in art or fashion school.

  • Custom clothier – A custom clothier makes custom-made garments to order, for a given customer.

  • Dressmaker – A dressmaker specializes in custom-made women's clothes: day, cocktail, and evening dresses, business clothes and suits, trousseaus, sports clothes, and lingerie.

  • Illustrator – It is an illustrator who draws and paints the designs of various clothing solely for commercial use.

  • Model – A model is the one on whom the entire limelight falls. A model displays the designer outfit by walking down the ramp and the pictures of a model appears in newspapers, magazines and alike.

  • Fashion journalist – A fashion journalist is one who has an expertise to write about articles on fashion, which best describes the garments, detailing about the present fashion trends – more so for magazines or newspapers.

  • Wardrobe consultant – A wardrobe consultant (fashion advisor) gives recommendation about the styles and colors that will in a way make the client reach heights of flattery.

  • Photographer – A photographer usually takes photographs of the outfits worn by fashion models to be used in magazines, newspapers, or advertisements.

  • Fashion show – A fashion show producer is one who organizes runway/catwalk shows, with models walking down the ramp.
