Over the years, London Fashion Week has tried to involve more and more people in the world of fashion. For this, it was employed new techniques and promotional schemes among which the New Generation sponsorship scheme and Fashion Forward are the ones to look for. The sponsorship scheme was started by British Fashion Council in the year 1993 as BFC New Gen to nurture and promote promising talent in the world of fashion designing and fashion technology. Some of the top designers of Britain like Alexander McQueen, Clements Ribeiro, Julien Macdonald, Matthew Williamson, and Sophia Kokosalaki started their careers from here.
Fashion Forward, launched in 2006, is a sponsorship program for new designers, which is also a part of the New Gen scheme. Its dedicated program of support of the duration of a couple of seasons was devised to ease the changeover of the individual from being an emerging talent to an established designer. This will include in-depth advice from experts and professionals of the fashion industry in areas such as business planning, production, sourcing, marketing, export, and legal. Of late it has also received the support of the London Development Agency (LDA).
