Tarun Tahiliani

To the fashion cognoscenti in India-- the name Tarun Tahiliani needs no introduction. This business management graduate from the Wharton School Of Business, Pennsylvania, forayed into the world of fashion quite by chance. Now, the Tarun Tahiliani label is one of most coveted labels as far as Indian fashion designers are concerned. Why only Indian—this label has its loyal fan following in the international market as well.

It was in 1987 that Tarun Tahiliani set up Ensemble, his fashion boutique, in Mumbai. To get a better understanding of the world of fashion Tahiliani earned an associate degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.), New York. That was way back in 1991.

Today, Tarun Tahiliani is more of a global fashion designer than an Indian fashion designer. In 1995, when Jemima, the daughter of the deceased U.K. billionaire Sir James Goldsmith, married the Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan—Tarun Tahiliani was commissioned to design Jemima's bridal outfit. Tahiliani's fame does not know boundaries. In 2003, Tarun Tahiliani became the first Indian designer to be invited at the prestigious Milan Fashion Week. He has held fashion shows all over the world, and received international recognition. He has received numerous awards.

Apart from his flag ship stores in Mumbai and New Delhi (the commercial capital and the political capital of India, respectively), he has stores all over the world, from Amsterdam to New York. His long list of clients include international celebrities like Bollywood diva and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachhan (Aishwarya Rai), supermodel Naomi Campbell, British actor Elizabeth Hurley, and Hollywood actor Goldie Hawn. Popular Bollywood actor and winner of the British reality show "Celebrity Big Brother 2007," Shilpa Shetty has also walked the ramp for Tarun Tahiliani.

Tarun Tahiliani has been recognized widely for astounding contribution to the world of international fashion and has earned himself the reputation of being one of the most successful and innovative dress designers of modern times. His collection of finely woven fabrics, the intricate embroidery works and other enhancements have added a unique touch to his creations.
