History of Adidas

The roots of Adidas go back to the years immediately following World War I, when Adolf Dassler along with his brother Rudolf Dassler started producing sports shoes in very humble conditions. However, the brother split in 1948, as Rudi went on to form Puma, and Adolf registered his company as Adidas, a portmanteau of his name, in 1949. The company grew steadily in popularity till 1987 when the company was bought over by French industrialist Bernard Tapie.
