What is catwalk?eople who have hazy idea about this word. Actually, catwalk is done on the runways. During fashion shows, models express their talent and attitude joining the catwalk. They usually present the idea as well as the collection of the fashion designers. Fashion catwalk is associated with glamour world and the models display various fashion collections walking through the runway platform. While walking gracefully, the models do not only showcase fashion clothing, they introduce other fashion accessories too.

• The floor where catwalk is done is narrow. On the high platform, models present themselves with sizzling style. In this way, the dresses, shoes and various kinds of accessories are introduced in the fashion show. The catwalk is also known as ramp. This is because the beautiful models walk the ramp. The show, therefore, is also called ramp show and the walk of the models is popular as ramp walk.

• The word catwalk is linked with the term catwalks which attach adjacent buildings. Even sometimes, this walk gets similarity with cats. The animal positions one foot directly in front. In this way, it creates wonderful posture while walking. Such movement attracts everyone.
• A popular phrase in fashion jargon is “what’s on the catwalk.” This indicates new and hot trends in fashion industry.
• When a catwalk is not elevated, it is known as a runway. In television series Project Runway, such instances are found.

Misuse of catwalk

The floor has been misused by many fashion brands. Wearing high heels for long times, they are forced to stay on the platform. They have to walk long 45 meters on the floor. This damages their health. Even some catwalks are organized on fake grass, PBC materials, plastic, etc.

Tips while doing catwalk

• When you are walking on the runway, you must be comfortable. For this, you have to opt for the right shoes. Practice walking with shoes of lower heels.
• Models should remain confident. This is the key to act like a supermodel. Your body language and determination would help you to walk confidently.
• Try to put the ball of your foot down first. Your body should be able to adjust the balance totally. It is much like walking on tippy-toes.
• Place your one foot before the other one. Keep the toes in forward position. Make a single line with your footprint. Think that you are walking on a rope or on a beam. Maintaining this rule properly, you will be able to give your body good swing.
• While walking look straight forward. You must know the trick how to carry your dress as well as your footwear and makeup.
• Your chin should remain in little bit of downward position. But, keep the eyes straight. Head should remain straight.
• Avoid swinging the upper arms. Express yourself in natural way. The lower arms should sway gently when you walk.
• While turning at the end, you should take one step back. The head should be last part of the body to turn around.
