At present, the reigns of the contest is handled by his wife Julia Morley, since 2000.

BBC has been broadcasting the event since 1959. The slogan “Beauty With a Purpose” was added sometime in the 1980's. The slogan effectively summarized the purpose of the contest of identifying the beauty in intelligence and personality, rather than mere exterior charm.
