Anything natural and herbal is known to do a world of good to your health and when incorporated in soaps, can give your skin the glow and pampering it needs. If your skin looks dull after having been exposed to pollution and sun through the day, using natural body soaps such as easy herbal soaps would rejuvenate your skin, leaving it looking and feeling fresh.
If you can afford to spend only a few hours of your time, then making herbal soap at home would be a great idea. At home you would prepare the soap with ingredients that you are aware of and can avoid ones that may irritate the skin. Read on to know about an easy herbal soap recipe.
What you Need
- Distilled Water
- Herb of your choice
- A bar of glycerin Soap
- Essential Oil or Fragrance Oil of your Choice
- Coloring
- Olive Oil
- Soap Molds
- Plastic Spoons
How to Prepare & Apply
- Brush the inside of the soap molds with olive oil and keep them aside; shred the soap bar; grind the herb to make fine particles
- In a container, pour half a cup of water, bring it to boil and add 2-3 tablespoons of finely ground herbs. Heat the water for 15-20 minutes.
- To the water add the shredded soap and let it melt it and blend the mixture well.
- Remove from the heat and add 10-15 drops of essential oil and one drop of coloring. Blend well.
- Place remaining herbs flat at the bottom of the soap molds and pour in the soap mixture slowly with the help of plastic spoons.
- Leave aside for 2-3 days and gently remove from the molds and leave the soaps to harden in normal temperature for 3-4 weeks.
- Use everyday during bath in the morning and after coming home at the end of the day for a refreshing feel.
Benefits of Easy Herbal Soap
Herbs and herbal soaps have plenty of benefits apart from the cleansing and nourishing qualities. Depending on the herb you choose, the soap can have aromatherapy, antifungal, antibacterial, and antiperspirant, invigorating, antiseptic as well as skin whitening effects. If more than one herb is combined, you will get the benefits of all the herbs. So experiment as much as you wish, to get the herbal soap perfectly suited for you.
Tips:
Using Mint or peppermint will have invigorating effects, whereas use of lilac, lily or lavender will provide soothing fragrances. For the whitening effect use a combination of papaya, kamisas and calamansi herbs. Besides you can use herbs such as lemongrass, juniper, calendula, verbena, ocean point, Maine kelp, fenugreek, avocado or akapulko.
Note:
Sensitive skin could be irritated by certain herbs and essential oils. So use only those that suit your skin best. Always use plastic spoon or spatula as metal could have adverse reaction with certain herbs, which can in turn cause skin irritation and other problems.
