Skin care tips

To look gorgeous you must have flawless, radiant skin. Nothing can come in comparison to beautiful skin. Blemishes, dark spots, acne and pimple or blackheads can make your skin look dull and lifeless and sabotage your otherwise flawless look.

Age tend to cause havoc on your skin. Constant exposure to weather and faulty skin care regimen can cause your skin to age fast. It will lose its natural younger brilliance and develop patches and wrinkles. A proper skin care therefore should be followed from early age only.

For a soft, supple and younger looking skin one must therefore follow a proper beauty regimen of- cleansing, scrubbing, toning and moisturizing.

There is now an array of skin care products available in the market and many of these brands are really effective. You can find good skin care products easily in the drug stores near you. But to buy the right kind of products you need to know your skin type.

Check the skin type

Before you decide about your regular skin care regimen, determine your skin type. The skin types are broadly categorized as: dry, oily, natural, combination and sensitive skin. If you yet don’t know your skin type you may perform the following simple test.

  • Wash your skin with mild soap and water
  • Leave it for an hour and then wipe it with tissue papers at different areas
  • Press a tissue on your forehead, then nose and lastly chin
  • If there is little to no oil in the tissue then you probably have a normal skin
  • If your skin feels greasy and there is oil on the tissue, then you have oily skin
  • If your skin feels stretched after the wash then you might have a dry skin
  • If there is oil in the T-zone but the cheeks are dry, then your skin is of combination type.
  • The sensitive skin may appear dry, itchy or red after wash.

Depending upon your skin type you must then choose the skin care products. Avoid oil based skin care items if you have oily skin. For sensitive skin you must specially ask for medicated skin products.

  • Cleanse your face with a mix of gram flour and water. Leave the mix on your face for 15 mins to 20 mins to till it is dry. Wash off with cold water.
  • Oatmeal makes a very good natural scrubber. This can be used as a natural mild face scrub on all types of skins with no side effects.
  • The juice of cucumber is a great toner. Apply cold cucumber juice on your face after cleansing it to close the open pores and leave the skin tight and fresh.
  • You can use a mixture of lemon juice and honey for a radiant skin. Honey has the great property of moisturizing skin.
  • You can use a face pack of fuller earth, honey and milk twice a week for a youthful radiant skin. But avoiding fuller earth is a good idea if your have dry skin.
  • Sandalwood powder can be used on pimples. It will help reducing inflammation and soothe the skin as well.
  • For matured skin banana can do wonder since it has great anti-oxidant properties.

Hair care

When it comes to beauty, you can’t ignore the importance of beautiful thick hair. Hair gets damaged from constant exposure to environment and pollution along with the chemicals used in the newly developed hair styles-coloring, Brazilian blow drying etc. It is therefore important to take regular care of your hair.

  • Oiling your hair would keep it soft and prevent it from becoming dry. Coconut oil with Vitamin-E can be applied to hair twice in every week for health and shine. Follow oiling your hair with a turban therapy. This will also prevent dandruff.
  • Oil your hair 1 hour before shampooing for a tangle free smooth hair. This will also prevent your hair from drying.
  • Mix almond oil, castor oil and olive oil to promote hair growth.
  • Hibiscus flowers are also great for promoting hair growth. If you are suffering from thin hair, crush the petals of hibiscus flower and apply it on your scalp.
  • For thick, healthy and flowing hair make a pack of henna-amla-shikakai and use it once a week.
  • Henna can also be used as natural hair color for graying hair. It doesn’t contain the harmful chemicals of synthetic hair colors.
  • Add few drops of jojoba oil with your conditioner to prevent dryness.
  • Apply lemon juice on your scalp to get rid of dandruff.
  • Go for a hair spa once a month. Hair spa is a good way to solve hair problems.
  • Trim your hair regularly to prevent split ends. This will also prevent your hair style from going messy.

Hand and foot care

You simply can’t ignore the importance of taking care of your hand and foot to complete your beauty routine. Flaky and dry skin of your hand is a big fashion disaster. You need to take regular care of your hand and foot for smooth and supple skin.

  • Regular manicure and pedicure are great ways to maintain healthy skin. Not only it will leave the skin of your hand and foot smooth but will also help you in maintaining hygiene.
  • Soak your hand and foot in lukewarm water with foot soak. Then brush off with foot shampoo.
  • Cut and file your nail to maintain its desired shape and length. Clean your nails for dirt and stains.
  • Use a pumice stone for a smooth heel. It is a good solution against cracked heels.
  • Push the cuticles back from your nail and also remove the hard skin around nail for a clean manicured look.
  • Apply preventive nail coats before applying nail polish.
  • While applying nail polish, apply it to both the inner and outer surface of your nails and lock the ends. This will let the polish stay on your nail longer.
  • Remove the nail polish with remover. Don’t scrape it off since it can damage your nails. Also, don’t keep the polish for long period. It can leave stains on your nail.
  • Wash your hands with soap if your have used your fingers for eating. Clean them to remove all food particles as well as stains.
  • Use foot and hand cream to keep your foot and hands moisturized respectively.

Body care

Who wouldn’t love to have smooth and firm body? Along with your face and hair you need to take proper care of your body to complete your gorgeous look. Following are some body care tips, whish will leave you with a great body.

  • Apply olive oil on your body before bath. This will prevent your skin from getting dry.
  • You may scrub your body regularly to remove the layers of dry skin. You can use the body scrubs available in the market for the purpose or else sugar can also be used as body scrub.
  • Add some olive oil (or essential oil) with sugar and use the mixture as body scrub.
  • Add some bath salt to a bucketful of water and bathe with it. This will help prevent body odor.
  • Use skin tightening body wash for smooth and tight skin.
  • Use only mild soap with moisturizer which will leave your skin smooth and supple.
  • Don’t rub but pat dry your skin since rubbing can cause damages to your skin tissues.
  • Moisturize your skin regularly. It is worth investing in a good body moisturizer.
  • Go for a massage once a month for relaxing the tension from your muscles. This will help in rejuvenating your skin and make it appear youthful.
  • Exercise regularly. Even brisk walk can improve the blood circulation in your body and improve heart function.
  • Cut back on your daily cigarette and alcohol quota. Smoking and drinking both can cause your skin appear dull and lifeless.
  • Cut back on junk and spicy food. Rather, adopt a more healthy diet.
  • Include plenty of vegetables, green and fruits in your daily diet.
  • Drink enough water to keep your system hydrated.
  • Go for iron and vitamin supplements whenever necessary. Take doctor’s suggestions before taking supplements though.
