Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for removal of the outer surface of the epidermis of the skin by abrasion. Dermabrasion is used for removing sun-damaged skin and for lessening scars and dark spots on the skin. The process is useful for the removal of scars that are raised above the surrounding skin.
Preparation for Dermabrasion:
You need to take a number of factors into consideration if you are planning to go for Dermabrasion. Some of the most important factors for consideration are:
- Your age
- Your skin condition
- Previous plastic surgeries
- Previous medical history
- Patients also need to go through a routine examination
- The patient needs to have full knowledge of the surgery procedure
Process of Dermabrasion Surgery:
In dermabrasion surgery, the outermost layer of skin is scraped away with a rough wire brush, or a burr which contains diamond particles, and is attached to a motorized handle. The scraping process continues until the scar or wrinkle becomes almost invisible.Usually a hand-held instrument called a dermatome is used for dermabrasion surgery. The oscillating blade that moves back and forth is used to remove the outer layers of skin surrounding the scars. The skimming process is continued until the lowest point of the acne scar is leveled with the surrounding skin.
Later treat the skin is treated by ointment, dry treatment, or a wet or waxy dressing. Sometimes the plastic surgeon may go for a combination of two or more of the treatments.
