About Hyssop oil
The word "Hyssop" has been derived from the Hebrew word "ezob," which means "holy herb." The word is believed to have been coined by Hippocrates. The herb has been mentioned in the Bible as a medicine used in connection with plague, leprosy and chest ailments. In the middle ages the herb was used to drive away lice.
The plant is mainly available in the Mediterranean area and is about two feet tall. The oil is extracted from the plant, Hyssopus officinalis. The leaves and flowering tops of the plant are used in steam distillation, for the extraction of the oil.
