About ginger oil


Ginger was introduced as a spice in Europe sometime in 10th and 15th century. The use of ginger in medicine is documented in Sanskrit and Chinese texts. Ancient Roman, Arabian and Greek literary works also mentions the use of ginger.

It is named after the "Gingi" district in India. A native of China, Java and India, oil is extracted, by steam distillation from the rhizome of the Zingiberaceae officinalis plant. This perennial plant is grown to a height of about 4 feet.

  • Apply a few drops of ginger oil to combat the effects of nausea, cold and indigestion.
  • A few drops of the essential oil can be mixed with bath water. This is very effective for arthritic and other similar chronic ailments.
  • The oil should be used the oil in moderation, concentrated oil may lead to skin irritations.
  • The oil also contains photosensitive properties, so should not be used before stepping into the sun.
