About asafoetida oil


Asafoetida is mainly grown in parts of India, where it has been used for flavoring dishes for centuries. Referred to as "Devil's dung," asafoetida was also used as an flavoring agent by Romans. The plant originated in parts of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The gum that lends it, its characteristic aroma is obtained from the roots of the plant. The roots should be from a plant that is at least four years old. Oil is extracted from the gum of the Feaula asafoetida plant using steam distillation process. The plant grows to a height of about 2 meters.
