Types of Acne »
Acne is a type of disease that are linked to the irregularities of the oil glands. Acne is not dangerous, but your skin can suffer from it. It is one of the most common conditions of skin suffered by almost every human being.
Though acne does not pose any massive health risks but if you are suffering from severe acne, your skin might experience permanent scarring.
There are numerous types of acne. From them some of the common types of acne are blackhead, whiteheads, pustules, papules, nodules, cysts etc.
Doctors say that each type of acne is related to one another, but sometimes other unhealthy physical conditions give rise to them. So, sometimes, acne is considered as the symptoms of many hidden diseases.
Types of acne
- Whiteheads: When the skin pore suffers from complete blockage, whiteheads comes out. The pores gets completely blocked when it traps bacteria, sebum (a type of natural skin oil) followed by dead skin cells. Accumulation of all these substances, gives rise to whiteheads. Since, it gives a white appearance on the skin surface, so it is called whiteheads. Compared to blackheads, whiteheads tend to have rapid life cycle. One can get rid of whiteheads, by popping them out. However, before you pop out whiteheads, you must know the correct and hygienic procedure of popping to avoid any kind of further skin problems.
- Blackheads: When the pore of the skin is partially blocked, blackheads appears. In this type of condition the pore allows bacteria, dead skin cells, and the trapped oil (sebum) to drain slowly on the surface of the skin. One of the common notion about blackheads is that it turns black as skin accumulate dirt and dust. But this is not true. It turns black because the one of the own pigments of skin, melanin reacts with the oxygen present in atmosphere. The life cycle of the blackheads are much more longer than whiteheads and consumes long time for proper elimination. Dermatologists say that blackheads are moderate type of acne.
- Papules: This type of acne have tender bumps. They tend to be red and are inflamed. Like whiteheads and blackheads, this kind of acne does not have any head. The skin sometimes suffers from itchy sensation around the affected area and sometimes people squeeze papules. Unfortunately, instead of doing any good, the squeezing exacerbate the scarring. In treating this kind of pimples, taking the help of medical professional is recommended.
- Pustules: Pustules is similar to whiteheads. But it appears with a yellow or white center along with red circle. You can treat pustules either by squeezing or popping it out.
- Nodules: This type of acne falls under severe category of acne. This type of acne appears over skin surface with large and painful acne spots and takes months in curing them. In this type of condition, hard and large bumps occurs under the surface of the skin. This type of acne has the tendency to come back within short span of time. Thus, a thorough medical treatment is recommended by the doctor.
